Unit 2 High School Students “Give Back” With Annual Work Day

Bond County Community Unit #2 High School students lent a hand to the community May 2 during the school’s Give Back program. Dozens of students participated in the event, during which they volunteered their time to area organizations in need of a hand up.... The success of last year’s program motivated some students to participate this year.

Students at Bond County Humane Society were put to work doing a number of tasks, including laying mulch, building an exercise enclosure, pricing items for the upcoming yard sale and walking the shelter’s dogs.

“Volunteering is awesome and everyone should do it,” said student Jenn Moore as she priced items for sale at the group’s fundraiser, which will be held Friday and Saturday, at the dog shelter.

Dennis Hundsdorfer of the Humane Society said of the volunteers, “They couldn’t have come at a better time. We’ve had some projects here that we’ve been holding up on because we didn’t have the physical labor to do it. These guys jumped in and we’ve been knocking them out left and right.”
