Adopt a Pet from BCHS

It is our goal at Bond County Humane Society to match you with the best kind of pet for your family and home. We require all prospective families to fill out an adoption application form. After we receive your completed application, a BCHS representative will call you for an interview. We carefully screen all applicants to ensure that our dogs and cats are placed in loving homes.

Please submit an Adoption Profile Application online or in person at the BCHS Office to expedite the processing of your adoption application for either cats or dogs. You may fill out our easy web form: Choose Cat Adoption form or Dog Adoption form.
OR Adoption Applications also available to download in MS Word (.docx) and Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) file formats.

Pet Adoptions FREE for Illinois Veterans — BCHS shall waive the adoption fee for a dog or cat if the person adopting presents a current and valid IL Driver’s License or ID Card with the word veteran printed on its face or an ID Card issued under the federal Veterans ID Card Act of 2015 AND a valid IL Driver’s License or ID Card, AND complies with the adoption policies of BCHS. BCHS may limit the number of pets adopted from our shelter/foster system to one dog or cat each IL veteran in a 2-year period. See Public Act 103-0434 (HB2500 Enrolled)

Adoption Fees

Note: fees are subject to change per shelter management

Adoption fees cover: Spay or neuter of pet, vaccines are up-to-date for the pet’s age, treatment for internal and external parasites, heartworm test for dogs 10 months or older, veterinarian exam, Feline Leukemia/FIV test for all kittens/cats, and micro-chipping of all animals. All animals are spayed or neutered before adoption.

Please know that when you adopt an animal from Bond County Humane Society, you are not “buying” that animal rather you are paying for all of the time, effort, nutrition, medical care, and behavioral evaluation that is given to that animal so that he/she can become a healthy, happy family member.
Puppies and kittens especially require lots of attention from early socializing to possible foster family care to frequent vaccinations. There’s no such thing as a “free pet.” Medical procedures performed prior to adoption day can cost well over $300 at an animal hospital.
Bond County Humane Society is a no-kill shelter and a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization. We depend on your donations in order to rescue more pets from ill fate as well care for our current pets.
Adoption fees for the cats and dogs are based on the cost to spay or neuter the pet, vaccines, medications, veterinarian care, and microchips. We can only help our current pets and future pets when additional donations are made. As a private shelter, BCHS operates with income provided primarily by adoption fees and donations from the public. We receive no government funding.
